I find it quite strange that a joke that can work well in one language just sounds stupid in another. Every language has it’s own style of humor I guess. As an example, below are two jokes, both rather crude, the first is a translation from polish, the second is an english joke. Polish humor has definetly got a different feel about it than english humor.

Translated Polish joke:

A young couple, soon to be married meet with a priest to discuss how much they should pay for the marriage ceremony.

The young man says, “How much should I pay?” to which the priest replies, “Look at the woman you chose and decide for yourself how much you wish to offer.

The man reaches inside his wallet and pulls out $100 and hands it to the priest. The priest then reaches inside his wallet and gives the man $50 change.

English joke: (thanks Marius)

What did the lesbian vampire say to her girlfriend when she’s leaving?
see you in 28 days

In an endeavor to make poland a more user-friendly tourist town, the local government has decided to encourage clubs to have more descriptive names. For example, if you want to go out and have a good time, you would go to… Good Times, if you want to have fun, you would go to… The Fun Club or if you just wanted a nice easy night out, you would go to… The Chill Out Club… Which is actually quite a good chilled out place.

Other examples are;
Radio Bar if you want to listen to the radio,
Cafe & Drink Bar for a coffee and drink,
Guinness Pub if you feel like a Guinness,
The Tavern for a Tavern,
Heaven if you want to go to heaven and of course…
From Dusk Till Dawn if you want to be locked in a strip club and forced to fight off vampires.

Ok, the last one is really just a translation and isn’t really a strip club. It’s a rock bar, so I’m surprised it’s not called, The Rock Bar, although the name was probably taken already.

Well, it’s about that time of the month where I try and put down something thoughtful and creative to entertain the many, many people that read my blog. I bet y’all can’t wait. First let me start by saying that by far the best show on TV here is Top Gear made by the BBC, as Jeremy Clarkson would say, it’s simply Amazing!… please click on that link as I get paid 5EUR for each click!!.

How about a joke, Thanks Matthias for this one!

A pirate enters a bar carrying a steering wheel in his pants.
barkeeper: what’s the matter, why do you have a steering wheel in your pants?
pirate: AAAAAAAARGH! It´s driving me nuts!

Last week a friend of mine visited me here in Wroclaw, I think he enjoyed himself and it was good to just hang out and talk in english so thanks for coming down Richard.

As you can probably tell, I don’t really have anything interesting to say. So I’ll leave it there for now, if I think of anything later then I’ll post again.
